在京都一带颇有名气的剧团导演海江田优儿（堂珍嘉邦饰）毫不声张，悄然无息地和之前曾在同一剧团的恋人亚纪（高梨临饰）结婚，开始了属于他们两人的爱情生活。在此期间海江田正在排演一部新剧，可是他的种种异样让剧团的负责人龙也（松冈充饰）颇为担心。果不其然，某天海江田突然提出引退的请求，令龙也急于知晓背后的原因。与此同时，亚纪的妹妹阳菜（石桥杏奈饰）在毫无征兆的情况下出现在海江田的面前，她的一番话让海江田的心布满阴霾。 彷徨的一群人，心中各有所思……。剧根据纪实小说《Jambusters》改编，讲述了一个真实的故事：在第二次世界大战期间，一群住在英国柴郡偏远地区的女人团结起来共度难关。当他们所在的社区失去与外界的联系后，他们必须调动一切资源来帮助这个社区。她们是当时战争后方的缩影。 来自《唐顿庄园》（Downton Abbey）的Samantha Bond和来自《Cranford》的Francesca Annis将主演这部六集历史剧，Mark Bonnar、Ruth Gemmell、Claire Rushbrook、Mark Bazeley、Frances Grey和Ed Stoppard参与演出。 标题「home fires」源自短语「keeping the home fires burning」，即料理家务，维持正常的生活。。A rocker and ex-guard in the border between the Soviet Union and China, after being attacked, decides to go to an orthodox monastery to become a monk.
